刘阿姨私房菜 Aunt Liu's Private Kitchen
About This Spot
Stepping into Aunt Liu's Private Kitchen is like uncovering a well-kept secret nestled quietly at the back of what looks like a neighborhood bar. The intimate space hums with a warm, unpretentious energy — a welcome refuge where the pace slows and the flavors speak for themselves. It’s a room where genuine smiles from Aunt Liu herself invite you in, setting the tone for an experience that feels less like dining out and more like joining a lively family gathering.
This small, cozy spot pulses with the spirit of Sichuan — not just the fiery numbing heat of its famous peppercorns, but the rich layers of tradition and care that go into every dish. The air carries a heady blend of spice and sizzling stir-fries, and the menu unfolds like a personal invitation to taste authentic recipes from a kitchen where every element is considered with affection and precision.
Here, bold flavors aren’t just tasted — they’re felt. The vibrant peppercorns, fresh and still on their stems, add a memorable tingling buzz that lingers, while dishes like the tender braised meatballs or the perfectly balanced cold ox tongue carry stories of family roots and long afternoons spent crafting recipes passed down through generations. The space feels alive with these human moments: friends gathered low over steaming bowls, laughter mingling with robust flavors, and the quiet attentiveness of a host who cares deeply about each guest’s experience.
Aunt Liu’s blend of spice, warmth, and unassuming hospitality creates a rare rhythm: the kind of place where you don’t just eat but truly discover a different side of Flushing’s vibrant culinary landscape. Reservations are a small nod to the treasure you’re about to uncover — a taste of Sichuan that feels authentic, personal, and wonderfully grounded.

Truly a gem, in the back of a bar/karaoke. Aunty Liu is friendly to all the guests and always in good spirits. The food is not for the weak, if you cant handle mala numbingness, then this place is not for you.

The food is authentic, gotta get reservations first, as this place gets super crazy during the weekend. And it's just better to get a reservation overall as the place is small. The place used to be a bar I think, at least the front looks it. The food is covered with fresh pepper corns even with it's stem. The beef dish in my opinion is the best, then the veggie I think the name is dowmeow? It's delicious. I didn't taste the frog but the first was pretty. Be warned, it's spicy for some. Don't use the soup from the dish and mix it with rice. It will upset some people's stomach as it has hot pepper in it.

Such an incredible, intimate spot for amazing Sichuan food. It is very unassuming and tucked at the back of a bar. Auntie Liu is so sweet and welcoming, and even gave my family a free small appetizer along with dessert. My parents are from Sichuan and they rated this one of the best Sichuan restaurants they've tried. Everything was so fresh and perfectly numbing. We got 6 dishes and each one was incredible, we even ordered more to take home. It seemed like there were a lot of returning customers in the restaurant with us, so you know it's good when people are driving 2 hours to come just for dinner. Seriously such a hidden gem, I highly recommend checking this place out for legit Sichuan food. The taste combined with the incredible service, I'll definitely be returning :)

Authentic Sichuan Food. Lots spicy and green pepper青花椒。 Love them, just like the ones I had in Sichuan. Must make reservation to go, since it's a small private restaurant.

My family had reserved the restaurant for lunch for a private event. It was nice that we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Also, we got special attention from the owner/chef. The owner cooked the food and brought the dishes directly to our table from the kitchen. The chef arranged the entire lunch menu. We got to taste some of the popular and famous dishes. Many of the food were my personal favorite. Start with some fried chicken nuggets and braised pork bellies. Then there was the squid. I loved the way the squids cooked with the green bell peppers. Next was one of my personal favorites: twice-cooked pork. I loved it because I remember eating it growing up. The Mapo Tofu was excellent. It's got nice flavors with a little kick of spicy. I can't recall all the dishes because the food kept coming from the kitchen, and I barely had time to take pictures of them. It was a lovely meal. Everything tasted great. The service was excellent. And the dishes go great with a glass of icy cold beer. If you are in the area, you got to come in and give it a try.

The food tastes so like the food I ate in Chongqing. Only complaint is of the 4 we ordered, they all tasted pretty similar which only the protein being changed. The oil is super authentic flavour and consistency.
